First Big Stretch Goal Reached: Music & Alchemy Unlocked, New Art Opportunities!
– Sat, Apr 15, 2023 at 12:36:00 PM
Evening Wildsailors, I come bearing the best kind of monstrous news...
We've hit our first big stretch goal, 50k!
Leaves! Confetti! Blast of Trumpets!
So, what does this add?
Alchemy RPG VTT!
We met the folks behind the launching-very-soon Alchemy RPG, linked here for your convenience, at Gencon 2022. They had a booth right behind ours, they offered us materials when we ran out, they wandered over and chatted from time to time - they were just an absolutely lovely bunch, all told, and they helped make our first Gencon a great one. People ave been asking for Virtual Tabletop Support for a while now, and they're making it far easier than it has been in the past.
We're really pleased to partner with them, but I'll leave all the technical details (as usual) to Ray, for the next update. In the meantime, though, I'll talk about...
The New Soundtrack!
Another burst of wildsea music is now locked in, supplied by our very own Peregrine Vaughan! He produced an entire album for the core book, which has been used for both private and public games over the last couple of years - if you've seen wildsea content online, you've probably heard something he's made for us. In fact, if you've watched the intro video to this very kickstarter, you've heard some of his new stuff too!
One of the things I love about working with a musician is hearing all of the work-in-progress tracks, and he's got some fantastic stuff in the works for us. I've heard new tracks themed around some of the locations fromthe Storm & Root reaches, I've heard reinterpretations of some of the classics from the first wildsea album, and I've ever heard whispers of a few purely ambient pieces to help with Actual Play content and mood-setting. He really is a one-man musical powerhouse, and it's a pleasure to have him back.
A New Opportunity - Beasts From Shmeckerel!
And something new, to celebrate - I mentioned in a previous updae (I think, there's so much going on) that we were thrashing out the details of a few new funding options - namely, the opportunity to collaborate with Shmeckerel and I to create a few new creatures for inclusion in the Storm & Root hazards chapter. Well, I'm happy to say that Shmeck has signed off on it and is raring to go, so to coincide with Ray's next update those new tiers will go live (think of this as advance warning, if you want to have a hand in what kind of hideous, beautiful things might take a wildsailor to a root-choked grave).
We've already got some excellent new art for Storm & Root, from all of the artists involved (and I'll be talking about our new landscape pieces soon as well, with returning artist Mon), but I'm always happy to add a dash of spice from the backers in this regard - the original campaign's bestiary tiers offered up the Mantid Drakes and the Spectrapede, among other things, two creatures I've used to great effect when running games online.
And, On The Topic Of Playing Games...
If you haven't come over and seenthe community on the Discord, you really should! They're vibrant, they're knowledgeable, and they're a little bit weird from time to time - everything we want from a bunch of eager wildsailors.
So there we go! I started writing this update as soon as we hit 50k, and we're already closing in fast on 51k - the level of support has been overwhelming, and thank you so much to everybody that's helped spread the word.
Plus, a Final Question...
Now we're dafely over the line and in to new content territory, what information do you want me to spill about the Storm & Root book? We've got a lot of updates to write over the next few months, and I'm happy to do a few that focus on what the community are excited or curious about - so, in the comments below, let us know!
And with that, a very happy Felix is out!

We're Funded!

Backers, wildsailors, you're an incredible bunch!
We managed to skip enthusiastically past the 40k funding goal at almost exactly the end of day two. So what does this mean? A few things...
I am a very happy individual
The campaign is looking pretty healthy even after the day one surge
The first piece of stretch goal content, Ship Gardens, is officially unlocked (both as a potential add-on for some tiers and as an intrinsic bonus for those in the arborist tier and above)
So with that in mind, what IS a ship garden?
Ship Gardens
Wildsailors have been growing reliable produce on their decks for as long as there have been wave-cutting ships, but the increasing popularity of air travel (that keeps them far from the bounty of the treetops) has spurred something of a personal gardening revolution.
Mechanically, ship gardens draw in part from that old Resident Evil 4 / Diablo inventory system, albeit in quite a simple way - they give you boxes to fill with whatever plants or garden-based oddities you feel like including, which will grow naturally as time passes or with greatly increased speed if a crewmember takes the time to tend to them.
And what can they contain? Well, quite a lot of different things. Most of them are plant-based, as you might expect, but not all! We've got fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, spices, narcotics, legumes... The list goes on (farther and weirder than you might expect!).
And as well as the sampling of in-universe weirdness that comes from pre-generated plants, there's a new post to enjoy, new ship options, and rules on how to quickly create new plants unique to your world. And new art, of course!
And What Comes Next?
Well, the next stretch goal is for a new soundtrack, by our very own Liam, and Alchemy support. I'll let the details sit until we're a bit closer to unlocking it - don't want to jinx anything - but let's just say that I'm really looking forward to both.
So thank you, wildsailors - until next time!

First Day Updates
– Wed, Apr 12, 2023 at 10:59:01 AM
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for blasting us off to a wonderful day 1 start! On my end, just some housekeeping with why things are structured the way they are and a couple of new tiers of rewards based off of feedback from some of you. That said, I'll start with the fun stuff!
Join Felix, myself, Ric, and the rest of the Wildsea team as we discuss, well, just about anything! We'll be hanging out and video chatting. We'll go into detail about what's in Storm & Root, how it affects games, the design process, our Fireflying styles - whatever it is you want us to talk about, we'll be game to it (within reason :P).
If you're confused about the timezone, just paste this into Discord: <t:1681498800:F> and It'll automatically adjust to where you are.
Hope to see you out there!
New Tiers
We added a pair ofnew tiers based off of feedback from backers:
Navigator ($49) is an all-in digital tier that includes any stretch goal PDFs we might hit during this campaign.
Justthe Books ($80) is a tier that includes both standard edition books - no Firefly Screen or Stretch Goals - $10 off MSRP for new fans.
Manifest Mind - Why Only USA?
Many of you have been asking why the Manifest Mind tier is only available to USA backers. I added an FAQ answer, but the main reason is because we're out of stock of Collector's Editions in every region except the USA!
Shipping therefore would be absolutely egregious on those items. But - if enough of you are willing to pay the shipping from USA for this tier, I'd be open to doing that. Just know that it will not be cheap - I'm talking probably an additional $50-70 Shipping+VAT just to get the Collector's Edition to your doorsteps.
We may print more Collector's Editions in the future (or do a different Collector's Cover), but we'll need to reprint all of the core book before we can do so (which, hopefully, we'll get very close to after this campaign)!
Anyway, let me know in the comments below if you'd like me to open it up and I'd be happy to do so.
Low Sour Dice: Indian Ebony - Sold Out!
We got word from Might Dog Games that Indian Ebony is very hard to source these days, and so decided to mark that tier of dice sold out. We have enough already made where we can cover the 3 orders people placed, buut we're going to have to mark it sold out from here on out! Apologies for any inconvenience.
-----
Okay that's it from me for now. Hope to see you at our launch party on Friday!

New Storms, New Roots, New Tiers

Hello people, Felix here!
First off, a massive thank you to all of you that have helped fund Storm & Root. Expansions are always a bit of a shot in the dark, and this being the first bit of extra wildsea stuff that costs we didn't really know how well it was going to go... But we've been absolutely blown away.
Funding Goals
The original Wildsea managed to make 26,000 USD on launch day. I wasn't expecting as much this time around, but I was wrong (and I'm happy to be wrong), as we managed 29,000 USD. The support has been incredible so, again, thank you all!
And as I get ready to post this at almost exactly the 24 hour mark, we're at...
Now, soppy stuff over - let's talk about the campaign and the expansion!
Storm & Root Contents
So, what does Storm & Root contain? New ship options, obviously, for airships and submersibles, but quite a bit more than that. We've got new bloodlines, origins, and posts, but I've teased quite a few of those over on the discord so I'll save the pictures for later. we've also got a whole host of new hazards and bestiary-style content, some of which couldn't fit in the original game, and some of which is entirely new!
And we've got some new reaches too. Zentinel's Rise has already been shown off, but there's also a complete rework of Nadir (here's a pictorial reminder)...
... AND two guest reaches, one from community and playtest manager Cerebric (which we'll delve into in the future) and a fan favourite from one of the Wildsea's earliest players, now ascended to the status of guest writer - Duzakh's Vent, by our discord's very own Rhaegar Targaryen!
Additional Tiers
This is also probably a good time to mention that I had a chat with Shmeckerel, our resident creature+hazard artist, and she's happy to throw a little more spice into the world in the form of some backer-created creatures, as she did for the last campaign. With that in mind we'll be adding a new funding tier or two, for new people that come along or for existing backers to bump their pledge up to if they feel like it, that'll allow you to work with me to create, and get art for, a creature that'l appear in the book.
For the sake of fairness, I'm not just going to dump them out at a random time - I'll have the new tiers added alongside the next update, likely afternoon/evening tomorrow, so people will get a ping in their inbox that might be a good catalyst to heading back to the KS page and throwing money at monsters. :)
Spreading the Word & Pushing For Stretch Goals
And finally, a call on existing backers to spread not just the word, but the game! We have the free version of the core rules available, so if you know someone you think might like it, direct them there! The more stretch goals we unlock the more content gets added for a lot of backers, and the more fun expansion-type stuff I can write that focuses on the weird, the niche, and the player-requested.
Plus it gives the artists more to do, and they're usually happy with that :D
We've got our own advertising, of course, and the mailing list, and the discord... But nothing beats word of mouth from someone who just enjoys an RPG. So don't go out of your way to do it, and don't feel you have to, but if the urge takes you we're certainly not against you talking us up! :P
So There You Go!
Day one over, and it was a successful one. 28 days left to try to make this the most successful it can possible be. There'll be another update soon from Ray, focusing on the more logistical side of things most likely. So with that...
